Xion Audio Player

General Discussion about Xion Audio Player

Postby MikeW » September 20th, 2009, 4:34 am

Hello @all

I'm totally new here and I first want to praise the developer(s) of Xion! :D

Until a few days I was a 'big fan' of winamp, but already since a long time I was searching for a powerful audio player with less memory usage. I tried a lot of programs, but none could satisfy my needs and wishes.
This was until a few days as I searched again and came to Xion! I'm totally fascinated! Where other players took up to 300 or 400 MB of RAM, Xion just uses about 40 MB! That's totally incredible. Although I have 4 GB RAM in my computer, the memory consumption was an important factor for me.

But there's also another thing I'm totally blown away. It's the easiness one can create his own skin. This has never been so easy as it is with Xion. And at the end, I also was able to create my very first skin for an audio player (see thread in the skin section). Thousand thanks to the developer(s)!

Welcome to the Xion Community, MikeW!

I'm happy to hear you enjoy using Xion and thanks very much for your support! Its always great to hear from new users :D

Out of interest, which Xion build are you using? Is it build 100 from the download page, or have you already found the Beta builds?

Hi Cliff

I'm using build 121.
First I used the build 100, but it doesn't support album art. At least I couldn't see the picture when I used a skin with the album art feature.
With build 121 this works fine.

Build 100 has the advantage that it is available as a portable version, so everything needed can be stored on a portable device.

Build 121 stored some files in the 'personal folder' and hope the next release of Xion will also be available as a portable version.

Ah cool, wasn't sure if you were missing out on the new stuff or not ;)

Yes it will. Build 121 is just a Beta. The next public release will contain plugin updates as well as a Portable build.

I'm also new to Xion. You've got a helluva media player here. I'm just getting started and am in need of some help. I just dl'd the reference chart. There are greyed out numbers and I was wondering if they're useful or not. I have no clue as to what i'm doing so please bear with me. I do Sysmetrix for Wincustomize and the Xion player is one of their galleries. A great many skins are there for download. I opened one up and found the psd. I noticed the way the layers are named and that brought me here. I need to learn how to build a Xion player to go with a sysmetrix I have in the works. Any suggestions?

The Layer Name Reference Chart is pretty straightforward. There are some tricks to make certain functions work, and for those, the best way to learn is to look into skins that use those functions, and replicate the desired effect. Learn from the others, as they say.

To get how Xion skinning works in basics, check out the tutorial. It's about as straightforward as it'll ever get.
I shoot and ask questions later.

Take no offense of it.
