New Default Skin Progress

Aight I figured I'd share some WIP screenies of what I've been doing. View them on my dribbble page:

http://dribbble.com/LanceThackeray

A couple notes real quick. I've avoided solid greyscale elements this time, a subtle hint of blue blends much better with desktop wallpapers.

Place the current default skin over the WIP images and see the difference a hint of blue can make...

I took in all the feedback about the last Playlist being too chunky, so as you can see I've tightened it up some, and generally streamlined the entire skin.

We're getting there... :)

PL is better and akin to how it should have been first time round ;)
Main skin however looks a bit drab and not as polished as the original, it lacks some vibrant mood to it despite the blue tinge. Try adding the blue tinge as an overlay mode to bring out the colour and contrast and give it a bit of life.
The small fonts used throughout look blurry, I had to do a double take and rub my eyes to think it wasn't my eyes deceiving me :? I often use 50% transparency on white stroke to blend in with the bg, this helps reduce blurriness.

Thanks for the feedback dude =]

The fonts are set to sharp but the size I wanted and used (10px) has a slight blur to it. 11px however makes them much more readable. There is already a 1px light inset, but the anti-aliasing blurs it slightly. I'll switch them to 11px and see how it looks, although last time I tried it just seemed too big. Thanks for that!

There's no shines or chamfers because it was intended to be a matte finish. I'm bored of making everything uber shiny lately so personally I'm taking a break from that. These are of course two completely different finishes so I can't please everybody...unfortunately >_<

Cheers brah.

Love it. It looks more polished, and i can hardly notice the matte finish. In fact i might like it even more then.

And it looks flat. I like flat. Round things make my stomach churn.

Very streamline, very efficient space usage. Keep that up!

Hey thanks man =] Gotta say I agree with you on the "round" thing too.

Something I want to address btw is that because this is a default skin, I designed it to be just that. It may not be my usual style of personal design but then it shouldn't be. It's gotta be as clean and clear as possible for new users/skinners to decipher. Hence why I opted for flat, matte, and sharp elements. Even the chrome effect on the sliderbits has been removed. =]

I think Lance is doing a great job, especially if you compare the old to the new, you can see the old looks so much more dull and lifeless.

The new one looks so clean, clear, crisp and smooth and I'm loving it :D

Can't wait to see it in action on my desktop!

Cliff :)

I like it Lance. The playlist looks great and I can't wait to use it. The EQ looks good too but it could do with a dash of the blue somewhere to match the other parts. As others have said the main skin is a little understated as it stands. How it turns out depends a lot on what highlighting you use for the button interactions. I little glow can go a long way.

Like Logokas I like my players the way I like the world - flat

Very nice. I like the EQ allot. Very good work. This skin will have the hue slider to change color? I thing it will better if you can make with the hue to change color in the player and the playlist at the same time. I don't know if this is possible.

Sorry for my English.

Yes, the hue slider will change both Main and Playlist at the same time :)

Just to let you guys know that I've begun building a working version :) There has been a few minor design changes since the above images. I would post some working demos for you but I'm using future builds Cliff has given me with new features so it won't work too well for you unfortunately :/

Oh and I've been using the new icon pack for like 6 months now and they feel great. Can't wait to show you everything in action :D

Looking forward to it, as always!

It's been far too quiet here. Things really need to pick up.

Cheers fella :)

Hmm...just noticed I don't have a Skin Author avatar. I guess I haven't made any skins. I should learn how to. xD
