delay during animation

While making my last skin, I couldn't get this question out of my mind, lmao, so here goes...

I've got say 8 or 9 animations all stopping and starting, and all the animations have delays, as well as 1 animation to call the others, w/ delays also. So when the animation frame I land/stop on has a delay, is the delay counted out while the "nested" animation is stopped, or when it starts the next call for the animation?

Let me try to ask it a simpler way. A delay lands on a delay.Are they both counted out at once, or one after the other? :)
