Getting your fonts to display

Skinning Questions, Suggestions and Ideas

Postby Tzuriel » September 29th, 2006, 4:33 am

Greetings all. I am having trouble getting my font to display in my Xion interface. I am using a TTF font. And the layers are visible and titled: fs(24) and the other font related layer is: fn(Ethnocetric). Both layers are blank, nothing in them, just titled. And the 2 layers are at the top of my layers in photoshop.
I hope this is all the info that is needed to help me out; I am almost finished with the interface! I can not wait! Help please!

PS Yes I have included the font in my .xsf file

Hi Tzuriel,

Welcome to the Xion Community!

I am assuming you are trying to create track and time layers? If so, you will need to call them something like 'track fs(24) fn(Ethnocetric)'

That way Xion knows it is the track title you want to display there. After giving it this name, you will also have to define the area that you want the track title (or time, etc) to display in. You do this by creating an area on that layer, and filling it with colour. It can be all one colour, or many colours, its up to you. As a test, try creating a standard rectangle, and filling it with one colour, saving it, and trying it in Xion.

For a tutorial on this, check out http://xion.r2.com.au/index.php?page=tut1 and scroll down the bottom to where it talks about adding the track title.

Also, make sure that you make the background color something that will show up against the main player's body or whatever else you have the labels on top of.

For example, if the player is black, then make the font layer a bright color.
If it aint broke, fix it anyway. You may do it better.

Cliff
is there any way to get non os fonts in the skin without including them in the xsf during design, atm it only looks directly in the xsf and nowhere else?
so we can design with the font in the interfaces folder and it reference the font, otherwise default if the font is not available?

Placing the font in the .xsf should be the last step. You can just install the font into Windows and Xion will use it, but obviously it will only work on your computer. When you are ready to package up your skin, just place a copy of the font along with your PSD file into the .xsf
