Xion Audio Player

Crossfading songs / gapless playback

Feature Requests and Ideas

Postby sp3ctum » February 12th, 2008, 6:06 pm

I'd like to see a feature like this added to Xion. Even though the player is advertised to already have gapless playback, unfortunately I've found very little info about how to actually do it.
That's excusable though, since it's under development :)

Anyway, I think it would be nice if this feature could be developed further; to make it work with all songs (I'm not sure how it works now to be honest). Maybe it could be made as a component / plugin.

Currently the gapless playback is automatic. It doesn't actually remove the start and ends of the song, it relies on the songs already being trimmed. Perhaps I need to rename this to seamless playback or something instead until I add real gapless support.

Just so I understand :) I'm a bit confused.
Is it so that if two songs are trimmed to start at the start of the song, and end at the end, they should play without a pause in between?

I'm slightly confused but i'm thinking a example of that is Pink Floyds "The Wall"(the album) right? maybe i'm wrong.

Sometimes you get songs that continue into other songs. When they are trimmed at the end and the next song is trimmed at the start, there should be no gap. I believe Halonut1's reference to Pink Floyd is correct :)

Yeah because the wall is meant to be played all at once, so like for example one song ends with TV's turning on, the next begins with a scream and all the TV's being smashed, but its seamless, the scream actually starts a bit in the 1st song.

In that case, yup exactly. As long as the files have been nicely trimmed as well (you can use a utility such as mp3Trim) then it should be seamless.

Perhaps I should rename this feature so that in the future I can actually added processed gapless playback for files that haven't been trimmed perfectly.
