Everything I do, either movig open windows around or minimizing window the songs always kip/hang for a fraction of a second then resume. What can I do?

I have an Athlon XP1800+ which should be plenty to run this app :?:

Hi FordGT,

Welcome to the Xion Community!

I can think of a number of things to try:

1) Ensure that your sound card driver is up to date
2) Check to see if there are any applications consuming a lot of CPU cycles using the Task Manager
3) Try going into the Xion Configuration Dialog, to the Output Tab and switch between Direct Sound and Windows Multimedia WaveOut.

Just to check, which version of Windows are you using?

Cliff :)

I updated my audio drivers from Realtek just last month(ALC650)

I have an AthlonXP 1800+, 768MB of RAM, and use XP SP2.

I tried using Xion with just Firefox open, moved the window around and it skipped like crazy. Nothing's in the background running either. Just NOD32 and Kerio which both use very little resources. I've also tried all of the audio output options, using just FF and it still skipped.

I'm not as up on Hardware specs as I used to be, and have for the last 5 years been using Intel.

This might be an AMD bug, or it might just be a bug causing a slowdown due to the speed of the processor. Do you happen to know an equivalent Intel system? Is an AthlonXP 1800+ about the equivalent of a 1.8GHZ Intel machine?

The Athlon XP 1800+ runs at 1.5Ghz. It does run like a 1.8Ghz processor though, because of it's L2 cache specs and other AMD features.

I can't really figure it out :?: I have been using the player for a while longer now, and it's grown on me. Do you know anyone who uses an older AMD that could test this issue? Although the processor isn't dual-core, the 1800+ can handle multitasking quite well. I usually have Firefox, GIMP, Photoshop, a few windows explorer windows and a music player running at the same time with no system hanging at all. It must just be an AAMD thing like you said.

Actually, is it possible you are using an onboard sound card? It is possible that this is causing the freezing? Are you able to disable the on board sound card and try a separate card?

I have an AMD processor, although its a bit newer. It's 1.8. But it runs good on my machine! I DID have some skipping problems when i ran some skins that had a whole bunch of large animations going on though. You've probably already tried different skins though.

For what it's worth...
My 6y/o runsXion on my old machine
an Athlon XP 1700+ (which runs at~1.2GHz) /XP+SP2 with 512MB and Realtec onboard Soundcard to listen to the Wiggles :D while playing games. So your computer should be more than able to do the same.
Seems to me that it's just a settings problem.

Does that only happen in connection with FF?? (if so, you might want to google the appr. "tuning"-settings for FireFox (via about:config)
If that's a general problem, I would say, your machine needs some fine tuning
I recommend identify the source of the high CPU load first via taskmanager or process-manager (much better b/c it shows more info) and go from there.
You could always make sure to get rid of as many unnecessary background tasks as possible (via msconfig)
and reduce the HDD asctivity by setting the pagefile to
MIN and MAX to ~1.5x your RAM (1536MB)
Google is your friend ;) let me know if you need closer instructions
