Leave you feedback for skin authors who have published their skins on the Skins page

a quick idea to implement skin ratings on each of the skins on the downloads page, perhaps with quick search button for * rating skins or even categories, just boshing ideas up :)

Are you sure you want me to add this?

Or would number of downloads be more useful?

I think all of the skins are great, they have their own unique features which make them all great.

If there is some sort of rating, then what do you rate them on? It's kind of like having a rating button next to each piece of art in an art gallery.

What do the rest of the skinners out there think?

number of dls doesnt mean that people will actually use a skin for a while etc while a user rating (perhaps with more than 1 minute use of the skin ;)) is perhaps a more appropriate mark, however you cant please all the people all the time so some skins will as you say have unique features etc and appeal to different people

perhaps downloads is the next best thing, you could still see what is popular aesthetics wise which appeals to the masses?

Eh.

I've never been a fan of ratings, or number of downloads.

nor me but it roughly shows how much/many skins are getting downloaded,
usage of Xion and skins more really than for real nerdy value :)

How about I add a 'leave comments' or similar which redirects people to the Skin Author Feedback forum for people to leave comments?

That way it keeps all of that type of information in the same place?

Ratings can cause skin authors grief and some thrive on it. Me, I don't like them. Download count I do like :)

I don't know how much extra work it would create, but you could ask the skin authors when they submit whether they would like to receive ratings/comments etc. I believe deviantART does something like this.

Same here, leave the ratings to customize and other sites. Comments and download # would be appreciated.

to begin with i think #downloads would give an trend towards what people like the look of initially and hence the number of downloads, it also gives skinners an idea of what looks popular and try and design skins with that in mind, altho not all the time as we all have different levels, styles but a general indication is cool

I thoroughly dislike ratings too. Download count is useful, at least you can see when you got something right. clicking the thumbnail to view a larger screenshot is something I would appreciate, if that's possible?

I absolutely agree. I don't want to download every new skin to really see what they look like.

If you click on the thumbnails, you will now get a full sized preview.

Nice work. And pages of skins now too. I like the system of allowing comments that appear in the forum as well :)

It's skinnable. You know I'd be here ;)

Cliff — You take the screenshots and I see my skin worked for your screenshot. Did you have to edit the skin at all? I'm having issues with the animation if I use the XSF version. Straight from the PSD is fine though. Did I bugger something up?
