Xion Audio Player

New Xion Feature - Tint Slider

General Discussion about Xion Audio Player

Postby Cliff Cawley » July 9th, 2011, 5:30 pm

It's been requested quite often and those who've done it manually know how painful it can be to setup...

So let me present the Tint Slider!

This feature will be available in build 128 and later.

Cliff :)

Yay :) Nice one Cliff :)
And I thought time stood still (NOT) lol ;)
For some aspects I still like the way I implemented it especially for select parts of skins where changing simple aspects rather than the whole.
Will certainly play with that though ;)
Now we need the playlist being able to be added within a main skin ;) (and also the ability to add colour tint to the PL ;) ) As the pl seems limited with its layer set especially for the set pieces (unless we can add mulitples?)

Uhm, it IS for select parts. It only controls layers with the ID given to the slider.

Sure, you can still do it the other way, there's just more options now :)

Yea I kno ;) Although for example and to clarify what I really meant. Is the black within that photo didn't really change colour, so for those specific parts for example then another layer(s) would be needed etc...

Black cannot be changed that way because it's black, without hue. This does limit the slider to actual colors, removing the black/white from the options. But the main purpose of the slider is to employ different colors, so it will still do what is intended.

For instance, this reduces the complexity of the current default skin's color slider. Which is desired.

Haha you know it man. I had to kill Cliff's dog before he agreed to implement this :P Nah he's doing simply beautiful work behind the scenes. And this new default should be something quite special :)

@SLoB. You know, that method of yours for color switching is indeed seriously sweet. However, the problem with it is saturation. Adjusting opacities of colored layers starts to wash them out and they lose vibrancy. With this new slider, the satuartion can be full (or very little if desired).

I should add by the way that Cliff will be splitting the Saturation into it's own seperate slider. So Tint will be 100% Sat by default and a Saturation slider can be added for uses to fine tune and even make greyscale if they wish. Essentially these two sliders behave exactly like the photoshop colorize tool (which does not preserve luminosity).
I made the Xion Default skin. Ask me questions and stuff.

@Lance

Yea I know the multiple layers had issues, it was more of a workaround suiting to the skins natural colours more than a PURE RGB. Still a handful of layers is the way to go regardless of implementation.
Wonder what the date was on the feature request for RGB sliders ;)

This also is a serious way to beat the way other media players implement colouring!!

Out of interest, how do the other players do this?

I actually downloaded Winamp and installed it on a test machine the other day. I was curious and looked up how to make a simple skin. There was a NINE MINUTE VIDEO, on a skin that takes 30 seconds in Xion! And you had to copy and paste a ton of pre-made code!

Lols.

with the somewhat buggy colour editor in wa with lots of code per gammagroup or I made a random colour theme generator years ago ;)
The other way was implementing the 3 layer treatment we started to add to skins to make it easier.

Most of the others don't even support colour editing properly, hence me asking for it a long time ago back in the depths of the feature requests ;)

Winamp is so overkill like that. Instead of designing, you spend 70% coding it.
