Xion 1.0 build 91 Beta Release

Beta Builds of Xion. These are builds that are not quite ready for Release, but need feedback and bug submissions in order to move it to Release Status

Postby Cliff Cawley » February 9th, 2008, 4:01 pm

WARNING:
This is a Beta Build. That means it has fixes and features that are NEW. It is also possible it has bugs that are NEW! If you are looking for stability, please don't expect this build to be perfectly stable. It may have issues. If on the other hand you are happy to try this build out and post any bugs back in this thread, then please do!

Download Installer Version:
r2 Studios Server -> http://www.r2.com.au/downloads/files/beta/qa-xion_v1.0b91.exe
OR
Xion Server -> http://xion.r2.com.au/download/beta/qa-xion_v1.0b91.exe

Changelist:
  • Fix bug where layers of an animation were returning as hit layers when they were invisible

If you find bugs specifically related to this build, please post them here instead of the Bug reporting forum. Any feedback positive or negative should also go in here, no new threads. This way all feedback, etc related to this build will be in the one place.

ABOUT THIS BUILD:

Fixed the previous issues that were found by SLoB and ALAS. Since no one else reported anything this *should* be the Release candidate before the next public release! (which will be build 92)! Of course, PLEASE test and let me know if there are any show stoppers!

Enjoy!

Cliff :)

uhhm, somehow forgot to submit the post I wrote before.... (this log-in time-out...)
here it is:

Wow- turbo Cliff :-)

well this one I saw these days, wanted to post for build 90, but...

the bug is, that down buttons only keep their down state for a short moment and not as long as mouse button is pressed, WHEN there is an animation running at the same time.

I send an example to you Cliff for reproducing it (ggcFlip-where I deleted everything that has nothing to do with the problem)

sorry for the show stopper

Hehe no worries, its not really a show stopper, but I will still fix get it fixed :)

Has anyone else got any comments? Is the build nice and stable for everyone else?

Still examining it a bit but I noticed it seems to be using more CPU than previously.

Prior to upgrading to this build I was able to play World of Warcraft and have Xion playing music just fine, but now it seems to make WoW choppy, and every couple minutes Xion's playback will skip.. Sounds as if you were playing a song on a turntable and then bumped into it. It only happens once or twice each time, but it's annoying.
If I open task manager and sort processes by CPU usage Xion will often jump above all the others with ~2% CPU usage.

My computer has not changed since I last used Xion.

I haven't tested it much but I don't remember it ever happening before.

Does this occur with the previous Beta Build as well?

I was still (am still) learning here, and enjoying every minute. The only new recurring problem I'm having with the last two builds shows when I try to use "Gizmotwo" I suppose its a layer issue, I cant read the transparent anims anymore. Thanks, I wouldnt know if its the skin or me at this point, cant wait to get a skin up on here. thanks.

Well, I've downgraded to the previous beta version to test it and see if it occurs here too. So far I haven't seen it happen, however it has only been like a minute since I installed it :P

I'll let you know what happens... or if it happens.

Cool, all fixed. Its actually because an object was being used as an animation frame. While this worked in previous version, technically it wasn't 'legal' as there is no way to get buttons and such to work properly with _over and _down or sliders with their buttons.

I've re-allowed this for all layers that require only a single layer to function, so if there are other skins out there that have buttons or sliders as frames of an animation then this will still remain a problem for those (Previously _over and _down layers would just get ignored). Instead of embedding controls as animation frames, skinners should be using the 'action_layer_show' and 'action_layer_hide' keywords instead.

Well, I got to run through about 60 skins while I was skinning, and they all worked, excepting a couple that still had the same issues. Its actually stable as hell, and in the last three builds has never crashed, except on an occasional startup or two, and thats with aero and sidebar and objectdock all running transparent. Frankly I'm impressed and I will build skins to work with it. :D

I guess I spoke too soon. Now Xion won't let me drag .psd files to the player, I can only add them by zipping and placing in the interface directory. Can anyone help w/ this?

I'm also getting other crashes now, loss of sound requiring reinstall, (the prog is still running, vis is still working, just no sound) and inactive buttons and indicators in the right click menu. This seemed to be precipitated by dragging the skins.

Thanks,
xonenine
