Xion Audio Player

False positive??

General Discussion about Xion Audio Player

After running AVG Free 7.5,.. it listed the uninstaller for Xion as a Trojan?

Typically I'd say this is a false positive.. any reason why it could be listed?

I've been getting reports of this about all my software. Its definitely a false positive. AVG have done this before, they release an update and BAM some of my software is classified as virus.

Looks like I'll have to write them an email about.

Feel free to report the false positive yourself as well!

they will only give feedback for the paying avg users, so don't expect a reply from the free version

Usually I get a 'thanks for letting us know' when I contact them as the author :)

I've just sent off a report of the false positive so we'll see if they roll out an update that fixes this.

Sweet....

Thanks for the response!! I figured as much.. at least it set it aside instead of "healing" the file (which in AVG terms means deleting the file, not actually removing the infected code).

I finally got a reply from AVG on this:

Dear Sir/Madam,

thank you for your email.

Please accept our apology, if you have experienced longer than usual
response time from AVG. We are experiencing a higher than usual volume
of e-mail messages from our customers now. Though we do our best to
answer in a timely manner, you may experience an extended response
time. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

The mentioned files should not be detected by AVG at the moment.
Unfortunately, the previous virus database might have detected the
mentioned virus on some legitimate applications.
If there are still some file(s) falsely detected, please pack the
file(s) into a password-protected archive and send us to [email]
e-mail address. Please mention the used password in the body of the
e-mail.

We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Looks like they had a buggy database release, no wonder they are experiencing a high volume of emails

In case you are on the lookout for a quality freeware virus checker, check out Avast - www.avast.com

I tried AVG ages ago but didn't like it as much as Avast. No I'm not getting paid to push Avast (although I wish I was! :P)

I've been using it for years at home and its been rock solid. I just wish work would use it instead of the slow one they currently have :(
