Xion 1.0 build 59 Beta Release

Beta Builds of Xion. These are builds that are not quite ready for Release, but need feedback and bug submissions in order to move it to Release Status

A bug, a bug! My kingdom for a solution!

</melodramatic mode

Why is it that whenever something goes wrong an Aussie is involved… why? Anyway, Scarebear’s latest / first / only skin is crashing the “choose skin” window. The problem is the preview layer within the psd. When removed everything works fine.

Bloody Aussies, crashing my precious Xion in the middle of Sunday Bloody Sunday.

The skin doesn't crash my work version (not the beta), but the animation doesn't seem to work properly once I zip it and convert it to xsf format. If I run the skin as a PSD all is fine. I don't know if that is another reason for the bug PK has found.

I think it's payback for him breaking my website earlier ;)

What is the approximate value of said kingdom, and what percentage will I own after the solution is given? ;)

I'll take a look at this as soon as possible:)

It seems that the bug has something to do with the preview layer. First of all, it should be 128x128. If i remove that layer it works fine.

I'll have to investigate what I can do to stop the crash and what its actually doing. At the moment it crashes all over the player as though something is stomping over the memory. I'll keep you posted if I come up with a fix.

I have tried to make a new preview layer with the preview being 128 pixels in height but I still get the crashes. If I remove the preview layer all is well. I have noticed that having the preview layer on top of other layers causes the crash. However, having the preview layer on the bottom causes the loss of draggability of the skin.

looks like preview layers dont handle desktop alpha in the loading window which is why Xion crashes
put a white background or diff color behind the preview layer and merge them keeping the preview layer name and no errors

not sure if Cliff can workaround that?

you also want to put in moveable keyword in layer 1 for it to have total control of moving

Ok, got this one finally fixed.

The actual problem occured when the preview was either less than 128x128 or when it was positioned at another position other than 0,0 on the canvas.

Never fear, it's now been fixed and will work for the next Beta release.

FYI: I plan to do a bunch of Beta releases for testing new features/bug fixes and then when everything seems stable, I will issue a new Release build.

Thanks everyone for your efforts!

Cliff :)

SLoB Wrote:could tooltip keyword be reduced? just that thers only so many chars available to put into a ps layer title
when you fill up a button for example with
"button_normal modify(x) anim_layer_switch tooltip()" then it doesnt leave much room for much else perhaps abbreviation of tt or tp would help reduce it enough or even tip

will skins being coded/designed for a beta/future version for example be backwards compatible and Xion will ignore keywords etc that it doesnt recognise?

otherwise soon enough there will need to be version compatible numbers on skins, i.e. compatible with Xion 1.61+ etc...

I've made some changes and added some extra keywords. Hurray for cryptic keywords! You can check them out here -> http://localhost/dev/Xion/xion.r2.com.au/index.php?page=layerref
They are listed under the 'Alt' column, if one exists.

This will be available for the next Beta build

That sounds correct. Passthrough means basically ignore that layer. What exactly are you trying to do?

I've got some animation set to the network buffer. I wanted the tooltips to display the amount the network buffer was filled. I also wanted those layers to be passthrough so the layer underneath (marked as moveable) could be accessed.

Not an insurmoutable issue, but I wasn't sure what the intended behaviour was.
