Xion Audio Player

xion default skin

General Discussion about Xion Audio Player

Postby purpix1 » April 10th, 2011, 1:29 am

I'm wondering if I installed xion correctly as it always defaults to the default player whenever I open it. Doesn't seem to want to recall the last skin used, or the settings. I tried to configure in the options, but those don't stick either. Could this be Win 7 64 bit problem, or installation problem?

Where did you install to? The Default location?

I'm running on 64bit Windows 7 SP1 and Xion is running just fine.

All of your settings should be stored in your user folder so you should have permissions.

I've been having the same hassle and have now cracked it. Tried every which way having read the myriad of different instructions, for various file types, on different websites...

Windows 7 x64 (installer)

1. Download the skin and unzip if not an original [dot]xsf file.
2. Right-click the 'xsf' file and in properties 'unblock' if necessary?
3. Locate the user folder, along the lines of;

C:\Users\MyUsername\Documents\Xion\Interfaces

4. With Xion closed Copy/Move the 'xsf' skin file to this location.
5. Double click the 'xsf' skin file and follow the prompts to install.

notes;
a) If you unzip a skin to find [dot]psd files, or similar, scrap these and just rename the original zip folder to [dot]xsf
b) Dropping either a [dot]zip or [dot]xsf file onto the player would not work for me, neither would double-clicking a 'zip' file, and it's possible this is because I have UAC turned off?

Portable Version (only checked on XP machine)

note: You may or may not have to run Xion once before beginning?

1. Extract the contents of the portable zip file to a folder of your choice (though I'd avoid any root directory - so NOT directly to C:\ or similar).
2. Locate the folder within named "Interfaces" and copy move your [dot] xsf skin file/s there.
3. Right-click the 'xsf' skin file, select Open, then use the Browse option to locate the Xion executable in the portable directory and double-click it. At this point you may find yourself back at the Open With window - just close this.
4. Open Xion and go to Choose Skin > All Skins, and you should now be able to load your new skin.

This should work similarly for Windows 7 also, just bare in mind Unblock, UAC, and any file type associations OR lack of?

I have this same issue, and I'm running Xion (portable build 127) on 64-bit Windows 7 SP1 Ultimate.

I can see this:
1) When I set a new skin, it is correctly saved on Settings.dat file (not when I change the skin, but when I close Xion.)

<defaultinterface>
<Settings>
<Window visible="true" state="0" x="896" y="46" width="520" height="250" />
<Interface filename=".\Interfaces\AyonPlayerBlack.xsf?" transparency="255" scale="1" />
<ChooseSkin WindowWidth="529" WindowHeight="490" />
</Settings>
</defaultinterface>

2) When I start Xion again, it loads correctly the skin. (And Settings.dat doesn't change.)

3) I close Xion again, but this time I don't change the skin, just keep the skin I had set before.

4) When Xion is closed, Setting.dat is changed (by Xion, I don't touch anything) and it looses the skin name.

<defaultinterface>
<Settings>
<Window visible="true" state="0" x="896" y="46" width="520" height="250" />
<Interface filename="" transparency="255" scale="1" />
<ChooseSkin WindowWidth="529" WindowHeight="490" />
</Settings>
</defaultinterface>

5) When I start Xion again, Xion returns to default skin.

Summary: "If you don't change the skin, next time Xion will start with default skin."

Note 1: I'm saving the skins on <XionPath>\Interfaces

Note 2: It's no matter if I have administrator privileges or not.

......................

I tried the same on Windows XP SP3, and this doesn't happen.

0) Start Xion:
<defaultinterface>
<Settings>
<Window visible="true" state="0" x="936" y="106" width="600" height="210" />
<Interface filename=".\Interfaces\Default.zip?default.psd" transparency="255" scale="1" />
<ChooseSkin WindowWidth="529" WindowHeight="490" />
</Settings>
</defaultinterface>

1) Change skin and close Xion:

<defaultinterface>
<Settings>
<Window visible="true" state="0" x="976" y="86" width="520" height="250" />
<Interface filename="Interfaces\AyonPlayerBlack.xsf?" transparency="255" scale="1" />
<ChooseSkin WindowWidth="529" WindowHeight="490" />
</Settings>
</defaultinterface>

2) Open Xion:

<defaultinterface>
<Settings>
<Window visible="true" state="0" x="976" y="86" width="520" height="250" />
<Interface filename="Interfaces\AyonPlayerBlack.xsf?" transparency="255" scale="1" />
<ChooseSkin WindowWidth="529" WindowHeight="490" />
</Settings>
</defaultinterface>

3) Close Xion (on Windows 7 here is when skin is lost)

<defaultinterface>
<Settings>
<Window visible="true" state="0" x="976" y="86" width="520" height="250" />
<Interface filename="Interfaces\AyonPlayerBlack.xsf?" transparency="255" scale="1" />
<ChooseSkin WindowWidth="529" WindowHeight="490" />
</Settings>
</defaultinterface>

4) Open Xion (skin is loaded correctly)

<defaultinterface>
<Settings>
<Window visible="true" state="0" x="976" y="86" width="520" height="250" />
<Interface filename="Interfaces\AyonPlayerBlack.xsf?" transparency="255" scale="1" />
<ChooseSkin WindowWidth="529" WindowHeight="490" />
</Settings>
</defaultinterface>

I guess Xion reads its settings when start and stores them in some place, but when is closed and updates Settings.dat, Xion can read its settings on Windows XP, but not on Windows 7.

I tried the same on Windows XP SP3 (with exactly the same program), and this doesn't happen.
