ABOUT THIS BUILD:

Stabilising the Skinnable Playlist some more and slight changes to the skin itself. Fixed a bunch of other bugs and added a couple of features.

I still haven't received any feedback on the skinnable playlist! Has anyone out there tried to create their own? Has anyone made a playlist skin and found a bug?

Any questions or bugs related to this build should be posted here only!

Enjoy!

Cliff :)

Did you try the following that I posted under the download links?

If you receive errors when running, install the VS2005 Runtimes
Download from Microsoft -> http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

I took your advice and installed 2005 again after a recent reformat.

For what it's worth, I'll let you know in advance that I installed 2008 Vis Studio, and it didn't work w/ versions 104 and 105.There are no skins available except default, although I can browse to them, they cant be chosen. When I try to overwrite existing skins, nothing still shows up.

You spend alot of time and effort and I am making sure to clean install and work with versions 1.0 to 1.5 only. I know there are other glitches in 103, but after that version, something went awry with version 104 and 105 in how they see (or don't see skins)

I always checked config options and have admin priveleges.
I also used new shortcuts and finished the installs both w/ run xion checked and unchecked.

Believe me, I'd rather play w/ skinning, specially the playlist, but I thought doing this was more important, xonenine. :)

Hmm well the major change is swapping from VS 2003 to VS 2005. You're using Vista, correct?

Has anyone else had problems using that latest builds on Vista?

Also, have you tried right clicking on the shortcut and choosing 'Run as Adminstrator' ?

(Even if you're logged in as admin you still need to do this)

Soon I'll need to change where Xion stores its settings so that it plays nicer with Limited XP/Vista users.

I'm on Vista and haven't had any problems running the latest builds. I haven't even been running the installers as administrator (but I am logged into the admin account).

After installing the 2005 package all works swimmingly from 100 - 104, but I'm still getting stymied on 105. Only the default skins are available, although I do indeed have skins in the interface folder. Installed w/ right click and without, 2005 package worked for 104. So all else aside I'd like to ask, is a typical home user going to have to do this, or are the necessary components going to be available for someone who doesnt have visual studio or is very computer literate.

In the meantime, I'll be making skinned playlists w/ 104, while I mull over why only 105 acts this way on my pc.

How do I make sure Xion gets a donation? Does it really go to help Cliff? If I felt sure, mine would already be on the way.

thanks, xonenine :)

Yeah that's why I usually hung back on the new VS 2005, because of the runtime requirements. But its the same for if I release a .Net application. The user may need to install an update. It was holding Xion back without it. I'll perhaps look at a way of prompting the user during install or something.

Yes, I'm not sure why this is happening. Does anyone else get this?

Excelent. Downloading now.

Cliff mate, is there a list of layer names for the PL skinning? I can't find any in the forums. I know I can look at the PSD and all but it's much nicer to have them open on a second monitor with a bit of description. I'm really wanting to get some feedback to you on the skinning itself! And I have a nice little skin to test it right now. If you haven't compiled a list, don't worry about it. I'll just make my own from your PSD. It's only a luxury really :P

Peace, Lance
I made the Xion Default skin. Ask me questions and stuff.

I haven't compiled a list yet, all the layer names are the same, there are just some new ones :)

Please take a look at the playlist.psd to see how they're used.

I'll update the documentation at a later point, once I'm happy with the naming and sure it won't change.

I've started skinning playlisys in 104 (sorry, I really worked on the 105 install, I will again)w/ no problems.

I asume the amount of broken/split layers to be necessary for resizing bit ultimately I'd hope I can winnow it down to less layers needed.

I've used similar layouts, the layout makes perfect sense, but they usually called for the creation of a split tileable frame w/ buttons. Are two layers absolutely necessary for the resize aspect? Or am I looking at it wrong?

Thank you Cliff, for implementing this. Also as far as I undestand you still dont want any modified playlists released?

You don't need the two.

borderX = The entire layer will act as a resizeable area
edgeX = This allows you to create tileable areas that tile with the size of the skin, but don't allow the user to resize the skin with them

You can just use borderX layers if you want :)

For an alternative use for the edgeX layers, see titlebarback MID edget moveable anchortl anchortr

This is a tiny mid section, behind the playlist title that I wanted tileable so that it resized with the skin. Its not part of the border at all. Also note the anchortl anchortr. This is so that it pin the top left and top right and therefore resize with the skin :)

By default Xion will attempt to guess the anchoring for you. So if you place a button in the lower right, it will automatically assign it anchorbr internally. To center something you'd manually anchor to both sides.

No worries! I think you're the first to ask more questions :) That's correct, not until the skinnable playlist has been released as a Public build.

Otherwise people will download your skin and wonder why its not working in build 100 :)
