It might be an idea to have a popupscreen whenever a new version comes out, like winamp has. This way you are pretty sure your Xion-users will update to its newest version...
Please support my skinning website by submitting your Xion skins to it ; www.winmodify.com
Good idea. I've been hesitant to add any type of networking in yet, as that brings a plethora of other problems related to firewall software thinking that Xion is a Trojan, or getting misclassified as some virus, because I happen to use similar connection code.
I'll look into my options Cliff ![]()
doesn't Xion already use the net for playing streams?
If it aint broke, fix it anyway. You may do it better.
One thing I've not seen too many programs, other then mozilla apps, and that is to check for theme updates.
Would be cool if Xion's about box not only showed the skin's author info, but it would allow you to check for updates to the player, as well as check for the current skin's update. If it aint broke, fix it anyway. You may do it better.
That's a great idea, however to do that, I would have to require skin authors to embed some type of versioning, otherwise how would Xion know if there has been an update or not? and what happens if someone downloads your skin and modifies it themselves, how will Xion know about the updates?

couldn't a version tag be set at the intefaces main background layer?
or there could be another layer that we add on, make it transparent and include the version. Infact, it could also house a text label too, representing the version on the player itself. I was talking in terms of the player would check the theme on this site maybe? if we include author info on a layer along with the version number, maybe that would work. If it aint broke, fix it anyway. You may do it better.
Yes, its possible I could add the version information as layer text or something.
I'll do some prototyping and see what I come up with. Cliff ![]()
wot about a song notifier option also, perhaps using either animation object (to slide in)or fade on normal?
optional cover art would be cool too, probably best for local images to begin with seeing as no netcode implemented yet ![]() ahh that never ending feature request list eh Cliff ![]()
