Did you ever try the C4 Player beta?

An interesting lil app.

It had a variety of skin modes.
- bullet
- full
- upper-right corner
- upper left corner
- lower-left corner <- the one I most commonly used
- lower-right corner

The beta was the really cool thing, though. It actually animated from bullet to full mode, and the playlist animated out of the full mode. The end version was a separate skinned window, but the beta was way cooler (if smaller). I'll have to dig it up out of my graveyard - er, archives >;] - to show you guys.

Anyway, I just thought it would be cool if the playlist in Xion could work in a sliding tray like fashion. Something like what sonique 1.x did with its equalizer. Just as an optional part of the main window. Something like what is seen in the default Xion skin with the main controls.

Imagine a bar mode that, when clicked on, showed the playlist and extended controls.

Anyway, just an idea. I've been meaning to mention it. A lot of good things from other media players periodically jump into my mind, like sonique's visuals in the mid mode. That's another thread tho. ^.~

C4 player is in our archives at skinnables.org if you want to see what I mean.

There's certainly nothing stopping you from making a skin like that right now. Just use the keyword 'playlist' to show the playlist, and modify(x) and anim_layer_show to show the extended controls.

I made an example skin (linked to at this post: http://xion.r2.com.au/community/viewtopic.php?t=29) that shows partly what I mean.

No, I'll have to take a look.

I've been tossing around the idea of either making the playlist window that you see now, completely skinnable, or integrating a simple playlist within the main skin, so that you just define an area or something for the playlist, however this would mean that the playlist would be fixed.

Not sure, either way it will be a lot of work. I will release an Example Component before this, so that other users can start creating components, then I will look into the skinnable playlist side.

Have you ever seen kewlpAd? You might be able to define some tiled areas, and have it resize or be static according to the skinners wishes. The old window skinner eFX gave a lot of controls like that. Skinners know how to have a freeform design and figure out a resizeable window that works around it.

Having the seperate playlist able to do the same would be cool too. Is there any reason it can't be resizeable?

Well it can be sizeable. It might just be a pain to set it up properly in Photoshop or Gimp.

I'll have to see how I go with defining it.
