Text placement and web links

I have only been using Xion for about 24 hours now so I am very new to this and apologize if these questions have already been asked. I looked through the suggestions forum titles and didnt see a reference to them though.

I'm working on my second skin now and there are two things I am wondering if are already possible and I am just not seeing them on the tutorial pages. Or if they are possible to get added in.

First thing is wether or not it is possible to put text information (i.e. title, artist, etc.) at an angle or not.

Second thing is wether or not it is possible to put a button on a skin that would link to a predetermined website such as the Xion homepage or a website where the skinner posts their work.

Currently both of these aren't implemented but potentially could be.

Well thanks for responding and saving me from wondering and hunting through every thread here.

Hope to see them in a future release. :D

i'm not in favour of web links from skins, there are so many dodgy links out there that from a security pov is not good, altho i can appreciate most links will be ok and in good faith it still does not stop the paranoia lol ;)

I thought the same thing as SloB. I don't think allowing external links is a good idea. The potential for abuse is too great.

I could always add a popup that says 'This is the link: http://www.r2.com.au Do you want to visit it?'

If it's always http://www.r2.com.au I think it should be fine.

No, as in, it will popup and tell you the URL BEFORE trying to open it in your browser.

It could say "This website could be potentially dangerous. Are you sure you want to visit?"

Just thinking about n00bs and www.install-virus-through-exploit-or-popup-spam-you.com.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. Some sort of popup would ask you first, instead of automatically sending you to that url, so that you can decide.

as much as it would be cool to goto SC and other places I really think this should not be put in yet, as all manner of commercial type skins could be done then with links back to the commercial site and or potential dodgy links

atm Xion is ad friendly, you can promote stuff via text labels, to add links would make it NOT ad friendly despite a warning, I would rather not have to decide to visit a particular site cos it was clicked on by a button.

if really wanting this functionality then perhaps a vote might be good to see how popular it would be, but bear in mind that it could be abused and used for commercial links in commercial type skins
my vote is NO :)

Uhoh whatd I start? :o

I think having a popup letting you choose wether or not to open the site would be good. That way if you hit the button by accident you arent forced to the page.

Just thought it would be good for people to find skins that may be posted on other sites that havent been uploaded here.

(would really like to be able to angle that track text though  )

this issue was brought up ages ago so don't worry you have not started anything, merely revived it ;)

as for angled text that has also been a long awaiting request as well as curved text too ;)
being able to use the curved path if possible so that all sorts of text shapes could be done

we use links in wa so i don't see too much issue using them in Xion too, its just that there is also the commercial aspect of it too which I don't think many have thought of, if Cliff adds in link support then there will be a whole host of commercial skins getting made with commercial links and he may want to charge for it if u catch my drift but there is also the security issue, last thing I think anyone wants to do is click around on a skin only to find hidden links etc..

I think it´s sufficiant like it is now: If the skinner wants to show a link or some other additional information he can do it with a popup message (through button_over or so). As SLoB said a direct link to wherever is always suspicious for the user and to me also somehow pushy, so I think that should be avoided.

URL: nah, don't really like it, the button_over thing could just be used.
Angled/curved texts:YES Plz!
