[fixed: 109] Register Xion as mediaplayer in Vista

Hi
I'm a new user of Xion and really like it as a mediaplayer.
But my problem is that I can't make Xion the default player of any media file.
Vista's changing default player of mp3 don't accept Xion as player. Associate mp3 in Xion won't work when Winamp is installed. Uninstalling Winamp makes Xion accept mp3 in file types but the mp3 extension is gone i Control Panel/Default program/extensions?
Right clicking an mp3 file, shows mediaplayer, VLC and nero wave editor but won't accept Xion.exe as mp3 player?
Xion is installed with the installer package so it should have registerd as a mediaplayer?
Any suggestions?

I'll have to check out Vista again, last I looked I think they changed the way that file associations work, which is probably why you're having difficulty.

Ok, thanks. I would really like to keep Xion.

I even tried to add userchoice in the registry,
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.mp3 but that didn't help either.

The OpenWithList looks like this, but xion doesn't show when right-clicking/open with in explorer.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.mp3\OpenWithList]
"MRUList"="cba"
"a"="waveedit.exe"
"b"="Xion.exe"
"c"="wmplayer.exe"

ProgIds looks like this.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.mp3\OpenWithProgids]
"WMP11.AssocFile.MP3"=hex(0):
"VLC.mp3"=hex(0):
"Winamp.File"=hex(0):
"Winamp.File.MP3"=hex(0):

Let me know if you need any further information.
(SP1 installed, IE8 beta2 but that shouldn't matter)

Hi Cliff

I found the solution, it was to obvious, I've done this before in Vista with other programs.
Just right click Xion and choose Run as administrator, then I had no problem to associate file types with Xion. Xions file type icons showed as they should and Xion finally appeard in the Open With list.
:D

Ah awesome, it looks like I'll need to put more error reporting in for this as well. I thought Vista would prompt for admin privileges if Xion couldn't access the key it needs. Thanks for letting me know!

Vista and it's user rights management..

Good thing i use administrator access everywhere, though.
